Main Cabin Extra is the extra-legroom economy class seating product on American Airlines, and it is available on most aircraft. This is on top of the standard oneworld elite benefits that travelers can expect. Upgrades are valid to the next cabin of service and are valid for a single one-way trip with a maximum of three segments.
If you booked a full-fare economy (Y), premium economy (W) or business class (J, D or R) fare, there's no cash copay to upgrade to the next class of service.
American Airlines provides an opportunity to upgrade with miles if you are traveling on its own planes or if you travel on British Airways or Iberia.
That's because all American Airlines AAdvantage members can use their frequent flyer miles to request an upgrade, while Gold, Platinum and Executive Platinum cardholders also enjoy a variety of complimentary upgrades to first class, even. Use your AAdvantage ® miles to upgrade on flights marketed and operated by American Airlines or American Eagle for yourself or anyone you designate. Main Cabin Extra seats are located in the forward part of the economy class cabin and at exit rows.
